shorter wheelbase

Body height does Matter!

Skateboarding gear choices have become more experimenting based on individual needs. The INPEDDO Mid-sizes introduce 4 new decks with shorter wheelbases. They are especially designed for smaller people.

Your style

You don’t have to obey to the size chart. Skateboarding is about personal style!

It’s a reference point. Shorter wheelbases support agility and make spins easier. This might be perfect for leveling up your freestyle game. Choose a longer wheelbase when you’re looking for stability.

Anatomical true

… is when the wheelbase has the right length according to the length of your legs. Then you have optimal board control. It differs a bit depending on your style of skating. The Mid-size height chart refers to Street style.

Street style

is a mixture between technical tricks and decent speeds when commiting to a fast riding style.

Freestyle skating is defined by mostly technical tricks which are performed on flat ground with lower speed. On the other end of the spectrum is transition and park. It involves big airs landing with high speeds. Street style lives somewhere in the middle and draws inspiration from both worlds.

Street criteria

The wheelbase MAY NOT BE TOO LONG to ensure agility for technical tricks yet it MAY NOT BE TOO SHORT to ensure stability for higher speeds.

Because of physical laws these two factors interact differently DEPENDING ON THE HEIGHT OF YOUR BODY.

The chart is not made up—it’s based on years of research by Paul Smitt. He worked with the following criteria:

wheelBase is not too long:

When you can properly level out Ollies and Nollies. When you can compfortably reach the nose for Nollie tricks.

When the wheelbase is right you have optimal leverage to maneuver the board around for any other technical trick.

Wheebase is too short:

When you knock your knees when landing a trick. This throws you off balance for sure.

Street skating can get decently fast. So any instability is not good, e.g. when you nose wheelie unnoticed.

The blind spot

There is a blind spot in skateboarding industry. The only choice for smaller people are deck sizes below 8.0″. These “Tooth picks” have the standard wheelbase of 14.25″ or 14″ which is way too long for them.

With shorter wheelbases the Mid-size decks address exactly this week point of the general skateboard product range.

They can be considered as wide boards – seen in proportion to the body heights they are intended for.

Wide boards!

Wide boards aren’t just cool. They give you finer lean control and a stable stance for fast skating and e.g. landing huge gap ollies. Now smaller skaters can ride decks up to 8.5″.

Superply

The Mid-sizes come like all INPEDDO decks as high quality SUPERPLY, 100% Best Canadian maple, single pressed decks.

Summary

After plenty of thoughts and deck samples which our riders tested, we’ve created 4 designs that we think have the perfect balance of dimensions that many people can find themself in.

All 4 decks come in a more compact form due to the shorter wheelbase of course always maintaining full skateboard functionality.

The size chart shows the anatomical true wheelbases for body sizes from 1,45m to 1,70m according to Street style.

Yet you don’t have to obey to the size chart. Choose the deck that supports your style of skating and what works best for you!

You might experiment with Mid-size decks to compensate truck offsets which can differ up to 1/2 inch, depending on the brand. But that’s a whole other story of it’s own.

Keep in mind that you need the right truck width for the chosen deck.

And be prepared that your brain will take a little bit of time to adapt to the new physics.
